A bill payment system can save you so much time and unnecessary stress!

One of the problems we have when, dealing with all our bills, is that we spend so much time worrying about them. Thinking whether to pay this bill or that bill. Wondering how much do I owe? Am I late in making my bill payment? When is that payment due?

So let’s get a system down, to remove our worry about our bills.

Here’s what I do, it’s pretty simple but keeps me organized and stress-free… perhaps this approach could work for you:

I have an excel spreadsheet with a list in the first column of all my bills that I have to pay on a monthly basis. Then in the second column I have the day of the month that the bill is due. For example, my Mastercard payment is always due on the 4th of the month, my Amex is due on the 6th, my visa is due on the 5th and my phone bill on the 6th.

Paying my bills at the start of the month helps me with budgeting. I’m not sure if you realize this, but you can change the date of your billing cycle by calling and asking for the date to be modified.

I always pay myself first by putting money aside in my savings, but next come my fixed expenditures like my mortgage, condo fees, cell phone, internet etc. If I get those out of the way in the first few days of the month, then I have a better sense of how much I have left over for other expenses that aren’t fixed.

Of course, I pay all my bills online. If you don’t already do this, set up a web banking account …so much easier.

With online banking you can preselect the date that your bill will be paid so I just go through all my statements and one by one I pay them and the payments then go out on the selected date that the funds are due.

Once the bill is paid, I check it off on my spreadsheet and put in the confirmation code beside it under the heading of that month. My bill payment is complete till next month.

That’s it! In total it probably takes me about 30 minutes and then I don’t have to think about or worry about my bills for the entire month.
